Welcome to our interactive indoor evacuation online test

Introduction

The main goal of this test is to gain insight into human decision-making when choosing an evacuation route during stress conditions. For this purpose, virtual tours will be used to display a spheric picture of a building model. The test consists of four parts: a questionnaire with your basic personal characteristics, a training of interaction with the scenes, the experimental scenes, and a follow-up questionnaire. The whole test should not take longer than 10 minutes. Participation in the test poses no risk of physical or psychological harm.

This test was developed in cooperation between the Department of Geography at Brno Masaryk University and the Department of Geography at Ghent University.

Requirements

This online test should be conducted on desktop devices (PC, laptop). It also requires that your device supports WebGL, which is mostly the case if you use a newer version of your internet browser. You can test it here or here. Please work in full-screen mode (simply use the F11 key to turn it on). Please use a mouse (not a touchpad) for interaction with the scenes.

Data collection

In this test, we collect basic personal characteristics and subjective opinions on the displayed scenes and your way-finding decisions. Please be also aware that data on your interaction (mouse movement, keystrokes) will be collected during the test. All data is collected anonymously, and there are no attempts to store your IP address. Collected data will only be used to evaluate the experiment and for subsequent publications.
